So i managed to trim off 4lbs from 220 i am 216...I am not too impressed with this but it is an achievement of sorts considering that i didnt start weighing myself until two weeks ago. I dont really wanna lose my weight. I was comfortable with the 220...

But the gut doesnt seem to go any where...(i am not measuring and dont intend to do so any time soon)

My question is if you dont want to lose overall weight how can you target only the fat around your gut without losing weight else where?

I am really happy with my upper body and my legs which are naturally firm!!!

How do i know that four pounds wasnt lost in my thighs?

Outside of cardio are there any exercises one can do regularly with out disastrous results?

Ps...From what you guys said,i have to cut out the situps until the gut is some what gone, so how exactly can i lose fat around my gut with out doing situps?

Unfortunately, you HAVE to do cardio.....or diet.....or both.

When I ran my first marathon I only lost about 5 pounds and I went from running 15 miles a week to over 50. I was able to maintain my upper body strength (for the most part) and lose my gut (which wasn't exactly too big to begin with).

Currently I'm going through the same thing. I started running hard again about 4 months ago. I'm noticing my gut getting a little smaller (but, I'm not really heavy to begin with....about 180. I'm down to about 177 right now).

Keep lifting heavy (or normal) and increase your cardio. Do AT LEAST 30 minutes per day 5 times per week. You will lose a few pounds, but your upper body should look the same. The weight will come from your fat stores (stomach, cheeks, back of your arms, love handles, etc...).

I usually don't lose too much weight. I would guess my ideal weight is 175. I usually stay between 176-185. When I'm up in the 180's I know it. My pants are a little bit tighter. When I get under 180 I can tell.

So, unless you have unreal metabolism for your age cardio is the way to go....but continue to lift hard.

That's my 2 cents.....
